Drew Meehan

Drew has been writing for CDN since 2011, when a random tweet led to Geneva Motor Show coverage, and he’s been contributing ever since. With a degree in Transportation Design, he worked primarily as an independent UX designer before founding Mensen — a consultancy focused on automotive user experience, research and design — in 2017. Drew’s passion for car design began at an early age, taking him from the U.S. to Italy to study art at 15, with a dream working for an Italian carrozzeria. While his passion for beautiful sheetmetal hasn’t faded, these days his focus is on developing better user experiences for automotive and emerging future mobility projects. His 5-year relationship with a 1972 Alfa Romeo GTV 1750 may qualify him as a true petrolhead, but these days he can be found riding his bike alongside the beautiful canals of his adopted home of Leiden, Netherlands.

Ken Okuyama on the Aiways U7 Ion

    2019-09-03T16:54:00

Working with the Aiways internal teams from his studio in Japan, Ken Okuyama has been working with the Chinese EV brand Aiways on the design of the company’s Shanghai show stand, a line of lifestyle products, and their newest concept car, the U7 Ion. He says that in the future, his design influence will likely extend to branding, stores, and even the website. After seeing the investment the company has made in their fully-automated production facility, he was convinced that Aiways had a big future, and he wanted to be part of it. In late 2018, he was named Chief Advisor of Design & Art, and his influence at the startup is already being felt. The immiment arrival of two Aiways U5 prototypes at the Frankfurt motor show on September 9, which left Xi’an in China on 17 July, seems a good time to take another look at this ambitious Chinese brand.
